Lady Tigers Prevail in Overtime MACCC Battle Against Lady Meridian Eagles

In a highly anticipated MACCC conference basketball game, the Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers faced off against the Meridian Community College Eagles in a nail-biting encounter that eventually resulted in a heart-pounding overtime victory for the Lady Tigers. The game, hosted in Meridian, Mississippi, showcased an MACCC batlle to remember.

The game kicked off with Cayla Meyers setting the tone for the Lady Tigers, knocking down a pull-up jumper. However, Meridian quickly gained momentum, surging to an 8-16 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Eagles continued their hot streak, finishing the first half with a 29-33 advantage.

Undeterred, the Lady Tigers roared back in the third quarter, sparked by Janiya Jones' bank shot three. The team embarked on a remarkable 10-0 run, taking a 39-33 lead and eventually tying the game at 44-44 heading into the fourth quarter. The final quarter saw both teams trading blows, with Tereah Hayslett's crucial layup giving the Lady Tigers a 54-52 lead.

The Eagles, however, responded with a timely layup, tying the game at 54-54 and forcing an exhilarating overtime period. In overtime, Jamaica Young shone, converting an and one opportunity to kickstart the extra period. Kamil Washum then delivered a clutch three-pointer, giving the Lady Tigers a decisive two-possession lead at 60-56 with 2:15 remaining. The Lady Tigers ultimately emerged victorious with a final score of 63-60.

Jamaica Young and Genea McAllister played pivotal roles in the Lady Tigers' comeback, demonstrating skill and determination. Genea McAllister and Cayla Myers dominated the offensive and defensive boards, combining for 18 rebounds as a duo, and a strategic rotation by coach Shanae Williams wore down the Meridian Lady Eagles. The Lady Tigers now improve to 12-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play, riding a three-game winning streak. 

As the Lady Tigers celebrate this hard-fought win, their focus shifts to the upcoming home game on February 12th against the MGCCC Bulldogs. The game, themed as a blackout, promises another captivating encounter, and fans are encouraged to support the Lady Tigers at 5:30 PM as they aim to continue their winning streak in the MACCC conference.
