Coahoma falls 24-16 at No. 9 EMCC

The CCC football team traveled to Scooba, Mississippi, on Thursday to face No. 9 East Mississippi.

EMCC scored a touchdown on the opening possession of the game off a one-yard TD run quarterback Eli Anderson. The Tigers responded with a touchdown of their own when QJ Skipper scored on a three-yard touchdown run with 28 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

The Lions tallied two touchdowns in the second quarter, and led 21-6 with 2:14 to play in the opening half. CCC was able to trim EMCC's lead before halftime as Coahoma quarterback Jaden Johnson connected with wide receiver Shemar Crawford on a 30-yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds to go in the second quarter. At halftime, East Mississippi led 21-13.

In the second half, each team scored just three points. EMCC won the game 24-16.

The Tigers tallied 283 rushing yards off 53 carries, while East Mississippi ran the ball 31 times for 90 yards. CCC tallied 436 total yards of offense; was 9-of-16 on third down; and recorded a possession time of 33:19.

Two Coahoma players rushed for over 100 yards as Johnson tallied 134 off 14 carries, while running back Jakobi Jackson tallied 24 carries for 105 yards. Receiver Kobee Lockett registered 61 yards off six receptions.

Defensive back Jacob Stevenson led CCC in tackles with 9.5 in the game; De'Meric Strong recorded 8.5 tackles. Zacchaeus Burnett, Zelion Chestnut, Tre'Shun Johnson, and Malik Puryear each tallied a sack for Coahoma.

CCC is now 3-3 (1-2 North) this season; the EMCC Lions are 4-2 (2-1 North).

The Maroon and White host Northwest Mississippi Community College on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m.
