The Coahoma Community College football team plays at No. 9 East Mississippi on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 7:00 p.m.
The Maroon and White began the season by defeating East Central 52-28, winning 28-15 at Southwest Mississippi, and recording a 47-10 win at Mississippi Delta. Following the 3-0 start; CCC was defeated by Holmes 28-21 in overtime and fell short at Copiah-Lincoln 35-10.
Coahoma ranks fourth in the conference in points per game (31.6) and yards per game (399.2). The Tigers are second in the conference in rushing yards per game with an average of 198.8.
CCC's defense has recorded 11 interceptions this season, which leads the nation. They've also tallied 17 sacks, which ranks third in the conference.
Coahoma has a tough task this week as the Tigers face nationally-ranked EMCC at Sullivan-Windham Field. Each team enters the matchup 3-2 (1-1 North) this season.
The Lions have defeated Copiah-Lincoln 38-0, Holmes 45-9, and won at Mississippi Gulf Coast 48-45 while falling short at Jones College 42-28 and against Northwest Mississippi 38-21. Both of East Mississippi's losses occurred against teams ranked inside the top-10 nationally at the time; NWCC was ranked inside the top-5.
Offensively, EMCC ranks in the top three of the conference in multiple categories, which include: points scored per game (36.0), yards per game (406.4), passing yards per game (286.4), passing touchdowns (11), and rushing touchdowns (12).
Defensively, EMCC is leading the MACCC in tackles per game (94.8) while having recorded eight interceptions and 13 sacks on the season.
