CCC falls short against No. 3 Northwest Mississippi

On Thursday, Coahoma hosted No. 3 NWCC at James E. Miller Stadium. The matchup marked CCC's third home game of the season.

The Northwest Rangers scored two touchdowns in the opening quarter, and tallied a field goal with 12:35 to go in the first half.

Coahoma scored on the ensuing possession when Jakobi Jackson recorded a 33-yard touchdown run with 10:06 remaining in the second quarter. The drive featured five plays for 63 yards.

Northwest responded with a touchdown on the next possession, but the Tigers countered with a TD of their own as Jakobi Jackson tallied his second rushing touchdown of the quarter. Jackson's 11-yard TD run occurred with 2:56 to play in the first half.

At halftime, CCC trailed 30-14. Each offense had back-to-back touchdown drives in the second quarter.

NWCC extended its lead in the third quarter, and the Rangers went on to win the game 44-21.

Coahoma totaled 186 rushing yards off 34 carries for an average of 5.5 yards per rush. Jackson recorded 93 of those yards to go along with two touchdowns off 14 carries.

The CCC defense tallied five tackles for a loss, three pass breakups, and three QB hits. Donte Starks led the Tigers in tackles with three solo and five assisted tackles.

Coahoma is now 3-4 (1-3 North) this season; No. 3 NWCC is 7-0 (4-0 North).

The Maroon and White host Northeast Mississippi next week on Sophomore Night. That matchup is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 20, at 6:30 p.m.
