CCC falls to Southwest Mississippi

Box Score On Monday night, the CCC women's basketball team played at Southwest Mississippi Community College.

Coahoma made three 3-pointers in the opening quarter, and led 15-14 at the midway point of the first half.

The Lady Tigers outscored SMCC by five points in the second quarter as CCC's Tiara Abron and Elishia Wilson each scored four points. The score was 30-24 in favor of Coahoma at halftime.

CCC tallied nine points in the third quarter, while Southwest Mississippi recorded 14 points. Backus, Rolonda Willis, Nakia Cheatham, and Mercedes Hayes each scored for Coahoma in the quarter. The Lady Tigers led 39-38 with one quarter remaining in the game.

Jeanee Anderson recorded two 3's in the fourth quarter, but SMCC won the game 55-48.

Backus tallied four 3-pointers, and led Coahoma in scoring with 15 points. Anderson also finished in double figures for CCC with an 11-point performance that featured three 3's.

The Lady Tigers are now 11-4 (5-2 MACCC) this season; Southwest Mississippi is 11-5 (6-1 MACCC).

Coahoma's next game is scheduled to be against Copiah-Lincoln Community College on Thursday, Jan. 27, inside of the Pinnacle. That matchup is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m.
