CCC faces Holmes in the Tigers’ second away game of the season

09.29

There is much excitement surrounding the Coahoma Community College football team. The Tigers have won five of their past six games and are 3-1 (2-0 North) this season. Coahoma plays at Holmes Community College this week with the opportunity to stay undefeated against MACCC North teams. HCC's record is 0-4 (0-2 North.)

The Tigers' defense has played exceptionally well all season, but they will face a new and unique challenge on Thursday night. Offensively, the Bulldogs' operate out of the run-heavy, Wing-T offense.

"Holmes poses a good challenge," CCC offensive coordinator Emmanuel McCray said. "Their offense - running a Wing-T - it's tough to stop."

While Coahoma's defense will have to adjust, CCC's offensive mindset is also impacted by Holmes' offensive play style.

"They run the ball, so the clock is consistently running; they limit our possessions on offense," McCray said. "Offensively, we have to capitalize on every drive; we got to come out with some points every drive, because it only takes one play for them to pop a big play. One person getting out of gap; things like that could result in six points."

Another element of the challenge for the Tigers is that they played last week's game on Saturday, which means they had less time to prepare for HCC's offense than what they usually would.

The game, which is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., will broadcast live on www.coahomasports.com/watch and on the college's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
