There's a big-time matchup at the Pinnacle on Thursday evening as CCC faces Itawamba Community College. Coahoma is 4-0, and ICC is 5-1.
The undefeated Lady Tigers started the season with a 65-50 victory against East Mississippi, then won at Mississippi Delta 67-59 in overtime, at Holmes 81-60, and against Northeast Mississippi 61-60 in OT.
CCC is balanced offensively as
Tiara Abron,
Ashanti Backus,
Elishia Wilson,
Brayland Ferguson, and
Nakia Cheatham are all averaging at least eight points per game.
Cheatham, who is the team's leading scorer at 14.8 PPG, was recently named the MACCC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The sophomore guard is averaging a double-double with 10.8 RPG this season.
As for Itawamba, ICC has defeated Mississippi Delta 69-51, Northeast Mississippi 72-66, Huntingdon College (JV) 85-57, Holmes 87-59, and Northwest Mississippi 76-70. The lone loss for the Lady Indians occurred against East Mississippi 59-56 on Thursday, Nov. 11.
ICC is led in scoring by sophomore guard Demetria Shephard; who is averaging 18.0 PPG and 4.8 RPG this season.
The matchup is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m.
