The Tigers fall in valiant effort against Northeast Mississippi

Box Score It was Sophomore Night at James E. Miller Stadium for the Coahoma Community College football team as CCC faced Northeast Mississippi Community College. Sophomores from Coahoma's band, cheer team, dance team, and football team were recognized throughout the night.

Coahoma won the coin toss and elected to receive the football to begin the game. The Tigers proceeded to put together a 15-play, 73-yard scoring drive.

The drive included a fake punt on fourth down with seven yards to go at the NEMCC 35-yard line. Punter Josh Hollins connected with tight end Josh Dixon on a nine-yard pass.

A few plays later, the Tigers once again went for it on fourth down. That decision also resulted in success when quarterback Kennique Bonner-Steward connected with running back Jakobi Jackson on a 22-yard touchdown pass. With 8:14 remaining in the opening quarter, CCC led 6-0.

Northeast Mississippi scored two touchdowns in the second quarter, which made the score 14-6 in favor of NEMCC at halftime.

With the score 21-6 in favor of the Northeast Tigers late in the third quarter, Coahoma scored on a 25-yard touchdown pass from Bonner-Steward to wide receiver Trell Millender. The Tigers converted on the two-point conversion attempt off a pass from Bonner-Steward to tight end Trayvon Moore.

The next points for CCC also featured a pass from Bonner-Steward to Moore. This time, it was a 15-yard TD pass, which made the score 21-20 with 8:05 left in the fourth quarter. The extra point attempt was blocked.

The Tigers had possession of the football inside the red zone with under a minute to play in the game, but a turnover resulted in a 21-20 win for Northeast Mississippi.

CCC's next game is on Thursday, Oct. 28, at East Central Community College. The game is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. The matchup will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch and on the college's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
