Box Score GOODMAN- The Coahoma Mighty Tigers and the Holmes Bulldogs embarked on a collision course in the MACJC North standings with a chance of making the 2020 MACJC Conference Tournament.
The Tigers had a chance to get a significant conference road win.
Holmes had a 71-70 lead with 12.1 seconds remaining on a reserve layup by Brandon Weatherspoon.
Cavin Paige got fouled with 3.1 seconds left. He made 1 of 2 free throws tying the game at 71-71 to force overtime. The Bulldogs outscored Coahoma in overtime 12-5 for an 83-77 victory on Monday Night at Frank Branch Coliseum.
Coahoma stayed in the game all in the 2nd half. Holmes answered by maintaining the lead by making big plays.
The Tigers started to break through with driving layups by
Cortez McCarty and
Troy Johnson. They took a 70-69 lead with 1:08 remaining.
In the overtime session, The Bulldogs scored the 1st seven points in overtime to take a 78-71 lead with 2:45 remaining. Weatherspoon scored a put-back layup.
Coahoma made one more push in overtime.
Jordan O'Neal knocked down a hook shot cutting the lead to 79-75 with 58.6 seconds remaining.
Holmes put the game out of reach with a hook shot by Weatherspoon.
The Bulldogs started with an early 12-3 lead.
Coahoma came back with a 14-4 run. O'Neal scored a driving layup to give the Tigers a 17-16 lead.
Holmes answered with a 17-2 run and taking a 37-22 lead. Tyler Talley scored consecutive three-pointers, and eight straight points during the run.
The Tigers closed out the 1st half by outscoring Holmes 11-1. Paige knocked down a three-pointer cutting the lead to 38-33 at the half.
Holmes (12-8, 4-5 MACJC North) had four players that scored in double figures. Talley led the Bulldogs with 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists, Darius Clark scored 15 points and two rebounds, Kaleb Higgins scored 13 points, three rebounds, and three assists, and Weatherspoon finished with 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Coahoma had four players that scored in double figures. Paige led the Tigers with 18 points, 11 assists, and two rebounds,
Kendall Richardson scored 13 points and two assists, and O'Neal finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. McCarty finished 11 points and eight rebounds.
Coahoma goes to 7-13, 2-8 MACJC North on the season.
The Mighty Tigers will start a two-game homestand against Itawamba Community College in an MACJC North matchup. The game is scheduled on Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020, at the Pinnacle and the tipoff will start at 7:30 p.m. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch as well as on the College's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
