Mighty Tigers’ Comeback Loses Effect against Buffaloes

Box Score LITTLE ROCK- Coahoma Community College Basketball was on a mission to clasp a huge road victory against Arkansas Baptist College. The Buffaloes gave the Tigers their first home loss of the season with 73-72 on November 16, 2019, at the Pinnacle. When the two teams faced each other on the court again in an intense game recently, it turned out to be another wire-to-wire classic.

Kenan Mitchell and Cortez McCarty missed consecutive 3-pointers as Arkansas Baptist holds on to a 67-64 victory Monday night at the Buffalo Event Center.

Arkansas Baptist was off to a hot start when Devonta Harkless and Marcus Hunter made a pair of driving layups. The Buffaloes took an early 12-5 lead.

Coahoma came back with an 8-0 run. Cornelius Holly knocked down a 3-pointer to cause a 14-13 lead.

The Buffaloes responded with a 15-2 run. Kendrick Thorn scored a driving layup and a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 30-17.

The Tigers didn't surrender that easy. CCC athletes Jordan O'Neal and Tiras Bolden shot a pair of fast-break buckets that cut the lead to 37-31 at the half.

O'Neal and Bolden threw in another pair of critical baskets to spear the lead to 37-35. Arkansas Baptist answered with a 3-pointer by Hunter and extended the lead to 53-47.

Shane Dalcour stepped up for the Buffaloes with a 3-pointer, which slid the lead to 63-56. Coahoma then perked up with back-to-back dunks by O'Neal and Bolden. Mitchell scored a driving layup that put CCC in the lead 63-60 with two minutes remaining.

Two Arkansas Baptist players mounted up double-figured points. Caleb Parker led the Buffaloes with 11 points. Hunter finished with 10 points. Harkless, Deonte Bell and Tyler Cubit made eight points each.

Two of Coahoma's players also contributed double figures. Bolden collected 20 points for the Tigers, including 13 points in the first half. O'Neal finished with 18 points. Mitchell pocketed nine points.

Coahoma goes to 3-4 on the season. The Mighty Tigers are slated to begin their MACJC North Division play against Northeast Mississippi Community College on Monday, December 9, 2019. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the Bonner Arnold Coliseum in Booneville, Mississippi. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch as well as on the College's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
