Lions Outscore Tigers at Last CCC Home Game of 2019

Box Score CLARKSDALE- Coahoma Community College hosted their final home game of the season against East Mississippi Community College on Thursday Night. The Lions made big plays and outscored the Tigers with a 55-20 victory at the James E. Miller Stadium.

East Mississippi (5-3, 3-2 MACJC North) took charge early, scoring on their first two possessions. Josh Smith made a 29-yard field goal. Then Connor Neville connected with Jason Brownlee for a 25-yard touchdown giving the Lions a 10-0 lead.

Coahoma hopped on the scoreboard 10-8 when Joe Johnson connected with Kalem Reddix for a 58-yard touchdown.

The Lions scored 24 straight points to close out the first half. Their special teams blocked a punt by Walter Taylor, and Shavoke Herrington returned it for a 30-yard touchdown. East Mississippi took a commanding 34-8 lead at the half.

Johnson continued a very productive night with a 95-yard touchdown pass to Sammy Carter. He also scored a 2-yard touchdown.

East Mississippi totaled 426 total yards, including 268 rushing yards and 158 passing yards. Zias Perryman led the Lions with 12 carries for 67 yards and two touchdowns. Keon Moore achieved 10 carries for 75 yards. Hamm McGee sprinted five carries for 76 yards. Neville was 6 of 12 passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Brownlee contributed four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.

Coahoma calculated 337 total yards, including 308 passing yards and 7 rushing yards. Johnson led the Tigers with 18 of 26 passes for 285 yards and three total touchdowns. Carter secured three catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. Reddix made five catches for 98 yards and a touchdown.

Coahoma honored the graduating sophomores on the squad with a special recognition before Thursday night's game. Majority of the team's sophomores will be eligible for an athletic or academic scholarship to a four-year institution of higher learning. All of the student-athletes are scheduled to graduate on time.

The splendid athleticism and academic these sophomores possess is a result of Coahoma's investment in the proper amount of practice and effort that can lead Tiger athletics to greatness. Coahoma goes to 1-7 (0-5 MACJC North) on the season. They will play their final game of the 2019 season against Holmes Community College on Thursday, October 24, 2019. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. in Goodman, Mississippi. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch and on the College's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
