Tigers Lose Tight Game Against Lions

CLARKSDALE– The Coahoma Mighty Tigers and East Mississippi Community College played a barn burner on Jan. 11, 2018. Coahoma was looking for payback against the Lions at The Pinnacle. CCC had a three-point lead with one minute to go, but East Mississippi scored seven unanswered points to get a 70-64 victory Monday Night.

East Mississippi (10-7, 5-3 MACJC North) took an early 5-2 lead. Jaborris Frazier scored a driving layup to give Coahoma a 6-5 lead. East Mississippi takes back the lead 11-8 with a layup by Terryonte Thomas. Robert Boyd knocked down a three-pointer tying the game 11-11.

Malik Bailey knocked down a three-pointer to give the Tigers a 14-13 lead. Both teams went back and forth with the lead in the 1st half. 

Ill'yan Scott scored consecutive layups extending the lead for East Mississippi 26-21. Dequon Morris knocked down a three-pointer cutting the lead to 34-31 at the half.

Quintarious Boatman knocked down a three-pointer tying the game 37-37. Thomas answered with five straight points giving the Lions a 42-37 lead.

East Mississippi took charge with an 11-0 run extending the lead to 59-45. They made critical free throws down the stretch to put the game out of reach. The Lions shot 80 percent (24 of 30) from the free throw line.

East Mississippi had three players that scored in double figures. Thomas led the Lions with 26 points, six rebounds and two blocks. Dewayne Cox scored 11 points and four rebounds. Keith Harris scored 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Coahoma had two players that scored in double figures. Boatman led the Tigers with 16 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Marcus Summerville scored 15 points and three rebounds.

Coahoma goes to (3-16, 1-7 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Itawamba Community College. The game is set for 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at The Pinnacle.

It will be part of a doubleheader preceded by Coahoma vs. Itawamba women's game at 6 p.m.
