Box Score SCOOBA- Coahoma had their biggest test of the 2018 season. They had to travel far and wide to take on no. 1 East Mississippi. The Tigers threw to the Lions everything they had in return for a victory. They had some critical mistakes and East Mississippi took advantage of them in a 47-0 victory on Thursday night at Sullivan-Windham Field.
Coahoma caught East Mississippi by surprise on their first drive. They executed a fake punt on 4th down and 3 at the Coahoma 47-yard line.
Chasten Lamb connected with Aceon Hopkins for 12 yards and a first down. The Tigers came up short on 4th down and 3 when
Jaylin Jones was stopped for a one-yard gain at the Lions 33 yard line.
East Mississippi took advantage of that stop. Messiah DeWeaver connected with Kalem Reddix for a three-yard touchdown giving the Lions a 7-0 lead.
The Lions came up big on special teams on a DJ Clayton 45-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 47-yard field goal by Josh Smith, which extended the lead to 19-0.
The Tigers had a chance to get on the scoreboard with their best drive of the 1st half.
Justin Gammage set the tone with a 48-yard kickoff return to the Lions 39-yard line. Then Lamb missed a 33-yard field goal wide left.
East Mississippi finished the 1st half with a 29-yard touchdown by DeWeaver. The Lions took a 26-0 lead at the half.
Deon McIntosh added on to the lead with two touchdowns (27, 1), extending the lead to 40-0.
The Lions put the game out of reach when TyQuan Ulmer connected with Clayton for a 16-yard touchdown.
East Mississippi had 314 yards of total offense including 220 rushing yards and 94 passing yards. McIntosh led the Lions with 17 carries for 146 yards and two touchdowns. DeWeaver finished with 12 of 19 passes for 76 yards, six carries for 30 yards, and two touchdowns.
Coahoma had 128 yards of total offense including 102 rushing yards and 26 passing yards. Jones led the Tigers with 27 carries for 121 yards.
East Mississippi goes to (8-0, 5-0 MACJC North) on the season. They will close their season against Northeast Mississippi on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, in Booneville, MS.
Coahoma goes to (0-8, 0-5 MACJC North) on the season. They will close out MACJC North Division play against Holmes on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018. The kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at James E. Miller Stadium. The game will be recognized as Sophomore Night and the graduating sophomores of the CCC Football Team will be honored in a special segment.
