Tigers Prepare for Big Road Test against Lions

CLARKSDALE-  Coahoma has faced some fierce opposition this 2018 season. This week's matchup will be no exception as the Tigers travel to Scooba, MS to battle no. 1 ranked East Mississippi.

The Tigers gave no. 5 Northwest Mississippi all they could handle in a 35-24 loss last week. Coahoma outplayed the Rangers in the first half leading 24-21.

CCC had 368 yards of total offense including 230 passing yards and 138 rushing yards. Myron Norfleet led the Tigers with 18 of 36 passes for 230 yards, 23 carries for 82 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. Stefan Harmon had five catches for 73 yards and a touchdown. Jones had ten carries for 40 yards and a touchdown.

Coahoma's defense held Northwest to 33 rushing yards and got three sacks.

East Mississippi has a very aggressive defense that averages five sacks a game. They also have to rely on their running game that averages 150 yards a game.

The Lions came off of a 56-21 victory against Holmes. They had 459 yards of total offense including 258 passing yards and 201 rushing yards. Messiah DeWeaver led East Mississippi with 18 of 22 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns. Deon McIntosh had 14 carries for 106 yards and two touchdowns. TyQuan Ulmer had 12 carries for 56 yards and three touchdowns.

East Mississippi's defense gave up 307 total yards offensively including 277 rushing yards.

Coahoma Head Coach Steven Miller has been humble and proud of Coahoma's effort last week. He hopes that they can bring that same effort for four quarters against the top team in the nation.

"We know that we can play with anybody in the country," said Miller. "We can play with the top and bottom of the league. East Mississippi will take our shot at the title."

The kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, in Scooba, MS. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch and on Coahoma's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
