GOODMAN– The Coahoma Mighty Tigers had to step their game up against Holmes Community College. The Bulldogs tough defense proved to be the difference in an 83-45 victory Thursday Night at Frank Branch Coliseum.

Coahoma had a hard time getting into their offense because of Holmes' intense man to man defense. Holmes forced 25 turnovers and four blocks.

CCC had a very slow start to the ball game; making it easy for Holmes to jump to an early 23-3 lead. Jaborris Frazier stopped the bleeding with a layup cutting the deficit to 23-7. The Bulldogs pulled away again with a three-pointer by Mikkel Norment extending the lead to 31-7.

Malik Bailey, Courtney Stovall, and Ricky Smith scored consecutive baskets cutting the lead to 33-15. Stovall beat the shot clock with a three-pointer cutting the deficit to 35-18. Holmes answers with a layup by Stanley Williams extending the lead to 37-18 at the half.

Coahoma went straight to work in the second half. Daquan Morris and Bailey scored a pair of layups cutting the lead to 43-23. Holmes answered with a 12-0 run. Trey Spencer and Norment knocked down a couple of three-pointers giving the Bulldogs a commanding 55-23 lead.

Holmes had two players score in double figures. Norment led the Bulldogs with 16 points and three assists. Spencer finished 15 points, two rebounds, and three assists. The Bulldogs take over 1st place in the MACJC North (13-2, 4-1).

Bailey led the Tigers with 10 points. Tarquise Harris scored six points and three rebounds. Dykellius Grandberry scored six points and two rebounds.

Coahoma goes to (2-14, 0-5 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Mississippi Delta Community College. The game is set for 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29, 2018 at The Pinnacle.

It will be part of a doubleheader preceded by Coahoma vs. Mississippi Delta women's game at 6:00 p.m.
