Mighty Tigers Lose a Heartbreaker to Indians

FULTON– Coahoma Community College has been in some knock down drag out ballgames this season. Friday's game was no exception when the Tigers faced Itawamba Community College in an all-out war. 

The game was tied 54-54 with 3:28 remaining. Marcus Summerville broke the tie with a three-pointer to give Coahoma a 57-54 lead over ICC. Eric Brown answered for Itawamba with a slam dunk cutting the lead to 57-56. ICC's Robinson answered with a layup to give the Indians a 58-57 lead with 24.7 seconds remaining. Daquon Morris executed a driving layup to give the Tigers a 59-58 lead with 14.5 seconds remaining.  

Greg Robinson scored a layup with eight seconds remaining to give the Indians a 62-59 victory over CCC.

Itawamba (6-5, 1-1 MACJC North) had their biggest lead at 41-29 with 13:01 remaining in the game. Coahoma fought back with a 14-1 run. Morris scored a layup to give the Tigers a 43-42 lead with 8:11 remaining. 

It was a low scoring first half for both teams. The Tigers started well, due to the efforts of Quintarius Boatman. He knocked down a jumper to give Coahoma an early 6-3 lead.

DeNori Berry gave a big spark for the Tigers with a driving layup. Coahoma extended the lead 8-5. Paris Harris got Itawamba back in the game 8-7 with a putback dunk. Morris answered for Coahoma with a jumper extending the lead 10-7.

Itawamba outscored 12-5 in the last 7:22 of the 1st half. Chayton York and Robinson combined for 10 of those 12 points. Itawamba took a 29-22 lead at the half.

Three players scored in double figures for Itawamba. Tre Jenkins led the Indians with 15 points and four rebounds. Brian Halums scored 11 points and two rebounds. Robinson finished 10 points and three rebounds.

Coahoma had four players in double figures. Morris led the Tigers with 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals. Berry finished with 12 points and six rebounds. Boatman finished with 10 points with Malik Bailey having 10 points and two steals respectfully.

Coahoma goes to (2-11, 0-3 MACJC North) on the season. They will play their final nonconference game against Southern University-Shreveport (2018 CCC Homecoming). The game will be this Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018 for 3 p.m. at The Pinnacle.
