Bobcats Big Plays Take Down Mighty Tigers

CLARKSDALE– Coahoma Community College wanted to get redemption against Jones County Junior College. The Tigers played a tight game in the 1st meeting. Jones County prevailed 78-74 on Nov. 3, 2017. Head Coach Michael Stringer wanted his team to fight the bully and not run from it. Coahoma gave everything they had, but the Bobcats countered for 66-53 victory, Thursday Night at The Pinnacle.

Jones County (4-3) had a 40-37 lead with 8:47 remaining in the game. Robert Boyd scored on a hook shot cutting the lead to 40-39. The Bobcats answered with a layup and three point play by Malik Henry. They extended the lead to 43-39. 

DeNori Berry scored on a layup to cut the lead to 43-41 with 7:39 remaining. David Gaines Jr. stepped up for Jones County with a layup extending the lead to 47-41. Coahoma kept fighting when Marcus Summerville knocked down a three pointer cutting the lead to 47-46 with 6:07 remaining. 

The Bobcats went on a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach. Henry scored on a three pointer and a layup to give Jones County a commanding 59-46 lead.

Coahoma had a competitive start to this game. Tarquise Harris scored a three pointer giving the Tigers an early 5-2 lead. Henry answered with a three to tie the game 5-5. Bailey scored a pair of three pointers giving Coahoma the lead 11-9. 

The Bobcats countered with a 10-0 run to take the lead 16-11. Winceton Edwards knocked down a three pointer. Coahoma bounced back with a dunk by Berry cutting the lead to 22-21. Henry scored a three pointer extending Jones County's lead to 25-21 at the half.

Jones County had four players in double figures. Henry led the Bobcats with 21 points, including 3 three pointers and 15 points in the second half. David McCoy, Michael Williams and Omar Steele scored 10 points each.

Berry led Coahoma with 10 points. Bailey finished with nine points, including 3 three pointers. Boyd and Summerville scored eight points each.

Coahoma goes to 2-9 on the season. They will get back to MACJC Northern Division action against East Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 11, 2018 in Scooba, MS.

It will be part of a double header that's preceded by Coahoma vs East Mississippi women's game at 5:30 p.m.
