WESSON– Coahoma Community College was looking for a big road win against Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The Lady Wolves (8-0) made a big run in the 3rd quarter to pull away from the Lady Tigers 72-34 Thursday night at Mullen Gym.
The Lady Tigers took an early 8-3 lead. Geneva Walker and Lameka President scored a pair of driving lay-ups. Co-Lin answered with a lay-up by Alexus Holt, which tied the game to 8-8.
Walker came back with a three pointer giving Coahoma an 11-8 lead. Brittany Rose scored a driving lay-up to tie the game at 11-11. Co-Lin soon pulled away in an 18-2 run and took charge with a 29-13 lead. Keyara Hinton and Khiyee Robinson scored a pair of layups cutting the lead to 29-17 for the lady tigers at the half.
Coahoma made the game interesting early in the third quarter. Walneika Holmes hit a three pointer. Dzondria Young, President and Walker chipped in with some layups cutting the lead to 33-28.
Co-Lin answered with a 26-2 run and never looked back. Karry Callahan scored consecutive layups to extend the lead to 59-30. The Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Tigers 39-4 in the last 15:30 of the game.
Co-Lin had two players in double figures. Callahan led the Lady Wolves with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Rose finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
Walker led the Lady Tigers with nine points and three assists. President finished with six points and eight rebounds. Holmes scored five points, four rebounds, and two assists.
Coahoma goes to 2-7 in the season. They will play their first game in the MACJC Northern Division against Northeast Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at The Pinnacle.
It will be part of a double header that's followed by Coahoma vs Northeast Mississippi men's game at 8 p.m.
