DECATUR –Coahoma Tigers came up big in the last minute and survived against East Central Community College 81-75 victory. Malik Bailey knocks down four straight free throws in the last 20 seconds to put the game away.
East Central (1-0) had chances to tie the game twice in the last minute. Roti Ware and Tre Pinkston missed consecutive three pointers to give the Tigers a bigger chance to escape with the victory.
The game was close early the game was tied at 13-13. Coahoma went on a 12-2 run to take the lead 25-15. Daquon Morris and Bailey hits a pair of driving layups to give Coahoma a 41-32 lead at the half.
The Tigers took charge early in the second half. Morris and Bailey knocked down a pair of three pointers. Dykellius Grandberry scores a driving layup to help Coahoma stretched its lead to 58-45, with 11 minutes to play in the game.
East Central began to chip away with a 17-4 run. A three pointer by Antonio Clark tied the game at 62-62 with 6:43 to play.
Bailey led Coahoma with 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Morris had 21 points, six rebounds and four assists. Marcus Summerville had 10 points.
Coahoma goes to 1-0 on the season. They continue on a back to back road trip against Jones County Junior College.
Coahoma Lady Tigers comes up short against the East Central Lady Warriors 79-69. Lady Tigers had a promising start when Nikkeria Harris and Geneva Walker hits a pair of three pointers. That gave them an early 11-7 lead.
East Central (1-0) went on a 15-9 run to grab a 22-20 lead. East Central broke it open by outscoring Coahoma 23-5 in the second period to grab a 45-25 lead at the half.
East Central led by as many as 25 points in the second half. Lady Tigers made a nice 15-0 run in the last two minutes of the game.
Harris led the Lady Tigers with 18 points and nine rebounds. Geneva Walker scored 14 points and 10 rebounds. Walneika Holmes had nine points and six rebounds.
Lady Tigers goes to 0-1 on the season. This was game one of back to back road games to start the season.
