Bears Comes Up Big Sweeping Tigers

CLARKSDALE –Coahoma Community College had an opportunity to even the score against Southwest Mississippi Community College on Monday Night. The Mighty Tigers had took control early in the second half. The Bears made a huge run sweeping the Tigers 89-80.

The Tigers had their biggest lead 60-54 with 12 minutes remaining. CaDarius Crumb and Dykellius Gandberry sparked Coahoma off the bench with a driving layup and a three pointer.

Southwest Mississippi (7-0) went on a 12-0 run. John Knight III and Roydell Brown scored a pair of driving layups. Terrell Ben knocked down a three giving the Bears a 66-60 lead with 10:12 remaining.

Daquon Morris hits a jumper to cut the lead to 66-64. Then Southwest went on a 12-4 run to put the game away. Jeremy Harrell and Ricardo Lynch had a couple of slam dunks.

Coahoma had a great start when Malik Bailey hits a three pointer. Then DeNori Berry scores a driving layup to give the Tigers a 8-2 lead.

Southwest comes back with Antonio Cowart Jr. hitting a three pointer. Then Brown scores a driving layup to cut the lead to 8-7.

Coahoma answers with layups by Courtney Stovall and Morris to increase the lead to 14-9.

Both teams was in a see saw battle all in the 1st half. Marcus Summerville hits a three pointer. Then Bailey scores a driving layup to give Coahoma a 46-43 lead at the half.

Southwest had four players in double figures. Knight led the Bears with 19 points and three assists. Brown had 18 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Cowart scored 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Ben had 10 points and four rebounds.

Coahoma had three players in double figures. Bailey and Morris led the Tigers with 16 points each. Grandberry scored 13 points, four rebounds and three assists.
"We had chances to take advantage of this game but we have to stay locked in," said Coahoma Head Coach Michael Stringer. "Southwest has the experience to make big plays. We're still a young team but we have to make big plays."

Coahoma goes to 2-6 on the season. The Mighty Tigers will be on the road against Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The game is set for this Thursday Nov. 30, 2017 at 8 p.m. in Wesson, MS.

It will be part of a double header that's preceded by Coahoma vs Copiah-Lincoln women's game at 6 p.m.
