Lady Warriors Comeback Takes Down Lady Tigers

CLARKSDALE– Coahoma Community College had just came off a great road trip winning two straight games. The Lady Tigers would have to step up in competition against East Central Community College. They had control of the 1st half but the Lady Warriors played a better second half in a 70-67 victory on Monday night at The Pinnacle. 

East Central (4-0) led 66-61 with 1:47 remaining. The Lady Tigers scored six straight points. A driving layup by Walneika Holmes gave Coahoma the lead 67-66.

The Lady Warriors answered and took the lead 68-67 on a Whitney Waters driving layup with 40 seconds remaining.

Coahoma had chance at the lead with eight seconds left but Nikkeria Harris lost the basketball. East Central made two free throws. Then the Lady Tigers had one final chance with one second left to tie the game. Holmes missed a three pointer to give East Central the victory.

The Lady Tigers had a good start 12-5 with a pair of scores by Geneva Walker and Lameka President. Then Walker knocked down a three pointer to extend the lead to 18-8. 

Coahoma maintained the lead throughout the first half. Harris scores a layup to give the Lady Tigers a 34-28 lead at the half.

East Central controlled the second half. They started on a 9-2 run. Tamirra Haskin scores a driving layup to give the Lady Warriors a 37-36 lead. 

President answered with a layup giving Coahoma a 38-37 lead. East Central took charge 39-38 when Diamond Wraggs scores a driving layup.

East Central had three players in double figures. Waters led the Lady Warriors with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Tan Lloyd scored 14 points, three rebounds and two assists. Wraggs finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Coahoma had four players in double figures. Harris led the Lady Tigers with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Holmes finished with 15 points. Walker had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists. President had 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Lady Tigers goes to 2-5 on the season. They will be on Thanksgiving break next week. 

Coahoma will get a chance at payback against Southwest Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 6 p.m. on Monday Nov. 27, 2017 at The Pinnacle.

It will be part of a double header that's followed by Coahoma vs Southwest Mississippi men's game at 8 p.m.
