Cavs Survive Tigers Furious Comeback

SHREVEPORT –Coahoma Community College was on a mission to get their first ever victory at the Johnny Vance Classic. Bossier Parish Community College challenged the Mighty Tigers with their quickness and size. The Cavaliers led throughout the game, but Coahoma made a big comeback in the second half. Bossier Parish answered the comeback and survived 71-64.

Coahoma took an early 5-2 lead when DeNori Berry hit a three pointer. The game changed a bit when Coahoma Head Coach Michael Stringer was issued a technical foul. Bossier Parish scored four straight points to take a 6-5 lead.

The Cavaliers went on a 7-2 run. Mahammadu Jawara scored on an inside dunk to extend the lead to 13-7. Tarquise Harris scored five straight points for the Tigers, including a three pointer and a layup. The lead was cut to 13-12.

Robert Boyd hit a jumper to give Coahoma the lead 19-17. Bossier Parish outscored Coahoma 22-10 in the last five minutes of the first half. Tim Collins scored on a driving layup to give the Cavaliers a 39-29 lead at the half.

Bossier Parish maintained the lead 53-43 in the second half. Coahoma went on a quick 7-0 run. Courtney Stovall scored on a layup cutting the lead to 53-50.

The Cavaliers answered with a layup by Brandon Moore to extend the lead to 56-50. Marcus Summerville hit a three pointer for the Tigers, cutting the lead to 56-53 with 8:16 remaining.

Jawara came up big for Bossier Parish with a layup to extend the lead to 60-55.

Coahoma was in striking distance to tie the game. Harris scored on a driving layup to cut the lead to 63-61 with 3:11 remaining.

Bossier Parish put the game away with a pair of layups by Jawara and Devion Dunbar.

The Tigers had two players in double figures. Harris led Coahoma with 21 points including three 3 pointers. Boyd finished with 17 points.

Coahoma goes to 1-5 on the season. The Mighty Tigers are back at The Pinnacle against East Central Community College. The game is set for this Monday Nov. 13, 2017 at 8 p.m.

It will be part of a double header that's preceded by Coahoma vs East Central women's game at 6 p.m.
