SHREVEPORT– Coahoma Community College traveled to Shreveport, LA for the Johnny Vance Classic. They took on Southern University of Shreveport looking to get their second victory of the season. The Jaguars had key runs and big plays against the Tigers in their 86-50 victory.
DeNori Berry hit a jumper to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. That would be the only lead of the game for Coahoma. Southern Shreveport went on a 16-1 run to create separation. Lyntravious Gipson and QuaTravious Capers scored on a pair of driving layups, giving the Jaguars a 16-3 lead.
Coahoma tried to get back in the game when Gregory Talbot and DeQuon Morris scored on a pair of driving layups to cut the lead to 32-22. The Jaguars outscored the Tigers 11-3 in the last three minutes of the 1st half. KaJuan Johnson hit a three pointer to give the Jaguars a 43-25 lead at the half.
Southern Shreveport outscored Coahoma 16-3 in the first 5:36 in the second half. Dayton Artis knocked down a three pointer to extend the Jaguars lead to 59-29.
The Jaguars had four players score in double figures. Gipson led Southern Shreveport with 12 points. Capers and Larry Robinson scored 11 points each. Shaun Juniel scored 10 points.
Morris led Coahoma with nine points and DyKellus Grandberry scored seven points.
Coahoma goes to 1-4 on the season. The Mighty Tigers will next play Bossier Parish Community College in the Johnny Vance Classic. The game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday Nov. 11, 2017 in Shreveport, LA.
It will be part of a double header that's followed by Coahoma women's game at 4 p.m.
