Wolves Take Advantage of Tigers Off Night

CLARKSDALE –Coahoma Community College was looking for a home opening win on Thursday night. Copiah-Lincoln Community College had plans to steal a win on the road. The Mighty Tigers had a bad shooting from the field. The Wolves made big plays in the second half in a 69-49 victory.

Co-Lin (3-0) had a 23-13 early lead. Johnnelius Anderson scores a pair of layups to increase the lead to 27-15. Then Youry White scores a driving layup pushing the Wolves to a 32-18.

Marcus Summerville hits a jumper at the buzzer to cut the lead to 34-20 at the half. Malik Bailey gets the Tigers going in the second half with a three pointer to cut the lead to 36-23.

Coahoma kept on fighting with layups by Bailey, Tarquise Harris and Courtney Stovall. That cut the Wolves lead to 46-37.

Jonathan Floyd answers for Co-Lin with a three pointer increasing the lead to 49-37. The Wolves outscored Coahoma 15-8 in the last 6:24 of the game.

Coahoma shot 28.6 (20-70) percent for the game including 5 of 12 free throws and 4 of 25 three point attempts.

White and Anthony Jones led Co-Lin with 16 points each. White also had 15 rebounds and two assists. Jones also had 10 rebounds. Floyd scored nine points and three assists.

The Tigers had three players had three players in double figures. Bailey led Coahoma with 14 points and seven rebounds. Harris finished with 12 points. Robert Boyd scored 10 points, four rebounds and two assists.

Coahoma goes to 1-3 on the season. The Mighty Tigers will hit the road this Friday to play in the Johnny Vance Classic in Shreveport, LA. They will play Southern University of Shreveport This Friday Nov. 10, 2017 at 8pm. Then the Tigers will play Bossier Parish Community College on Saturday Nov. 11, 2017 at 2pm.
It will be part of a double header that's preceded by Coahoma vs Southern University of Shreveport women's game at 6 p.m.
