Box Score 2 SHREVEPORT, Louisiana - Tiger Basketball dropped 2 games this weekend at the Southern Classic in Shreveport, Louisiana. The team fell to host Southern University - Shreveport Friday 90-81 before Bossier Parish stole the Saturday finale with a huge 2nd half that powered a 98-74 final.
Sophomore point guard Frank Anthony emerged as an early star Friday, scoring 26 points and dishing out 6 assists against the Jags. The Itawamba transfer shot 10-16 from the field and 5-7 from deep in his highest scoring output of the season to date.
Anthony's performance plus strong outside shooting from Shannon Bailey (3 of 6 from long range) were not enough though, as SUSLA built a 47-29 halftime advantage. LeDarius (DJ) Woods scored the bulk of his 13 points in the 2nd half, and Malik Bailey chipped in 12 total of his own to help the Tigers close the gap in the game's 2nd 20 minutes. But SUSLA held on for their 2nd win of the season behind 19 points and 8 rebounds from forward Zachary Taylor. 6 Jags finished in double figures.
The Tigers battled Bossier Parish Saturday afternoon, and kept the contest to a closer score of 42-37 at the half break. The Tigers were led by Woods, who would finish with 19 poinnts, including 5 3-pointers, and Zyshonne Burnett, who added 15 of his own.
Bossier Parish came out scorching hot in the 2nd though, sinking CCC's hopes by dropping 56 points in the final 20 minutes. The Cavs earned their 2nd win of the year behind sharpshooter Lasani Johnson, who made 8 3's on his way to 35 points. PG Jerry Perry chipped in 24 points and 14 assists.
The Tigers battle East Central Monday in Decatur. The Tigers fell to ECCC 64-62 in the season opener November 3rd. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
