CLARKSDALE, MISS. — Coahoma Community College continues to strengthen its softball roster for the 2027 season with the signing of standout pitcher and utility player Erin Cook from Clarksdale High School.
Cook officially signed with the Lady Tigers softball program, choosing Coahoma because of its close-to-home atmosphere and the opportunity to continue developing her talents as a pitcher and utility player.
"I believe Coahoma would help increase my talents more as a Pitcher/Utility player than the other prospects," Cook said.
Academically, Cook plans to major in Bio Chemistry as she works toward her goal of becoming a nurse anesthetist. Following her time at Coahoma, she plans to continue her education and softball career at Alcorn State University.
Cook is already familiar with Coahoma's academic environment after attending Middle College classes through the institution for two years while completing her general studies coursework.
The Middle College initiative allows students to complete college-level coursework while fulfilling high school graduation requirements.
Through the program, students earn transferable college credits and, in some cases, complete associate degrees before graduating from high school.
To earn their associate degrees, students were required to successfully complete the same 60 credit hours expected of traditional college freshmen and sophomores. She will spend one full year competing under the maroon and white.
Her success extends far beyond athletics. Cook graduated from Middle College with a 3.8 GPA and graduated from Clarksdale High School with a 4.0 GPA, showcasing her dedication both in the classroom and on the field.
Cook credits her support system for helping her continue to excel as a student-athlete.
"Having a village around me is what enables me to continue to shine as a student-athlete and push to greater heights," Cook said.
Cook also shared words of encouragement for the next generation.
"Don't let anyone discourage you and always have an A and B plan," Cook said. "Strive for greatness and work hard on yourself."
The Softball Lady Tigers continue building toward a strong future as Cook joins the program ahead of the 2027 campaign.
