03.08

Box Score In a successful debut season under Coach Shanae Williams, the Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers have clinched the 4th seed in the Region 23 tournament. Their regular-season wrap-up against MDCC ended with a commanding 46-29 win, earning them a well-deserved bye.

Coach Williams, who took the helm in June 2023, has transformed the Lady Tigers into a powerhouse. The team finished the regular season with a stellar 17-7 overall record, standing strong at 9-5 in conference play. Her ability to connect with each player on a personal level has created an environment where every member of the team feels valued and understood.

One of the standout players this season is freshman Kamil Washum from Nashville, TN. She's been a three-point sharpshooter, leading the conference with an incredible 44.6 percent accuracy beyond the arc. This also puts her ninth in the nation in three point percentage.

Sophomore Janiya Jones has been a consistent scorer, putting up an average of 14.6 points per game and hitting the 500 career points milestone. Ganae McAllister, a force in rebounds, rules the boards with an average of 8.5 per game, ranking third in the conference.

Coaches Williams and Quinton Pippen have cooked up a winning formula, mastering ball control (leading the conference) and solid defense against three-pointers. Their ability to control the game's pace is a secret weapon as they gear up for the postseason.

The Lady Tigers' success also rides on the three-point prowess of players like Kennedi Wagner from Birmingham, AL, and Cayla Myers from Camden, MS, alongside Kamil Washum. Their sharpshooting and tight defense make them a force to be reckoned with.

Looking ahead, the Lady Tigers will kick off their Region 23 tournament journey against the winner of the Jones College and Itawamba basketball game Saturday evening. The Lady Tigers will be at home in Clarksdale, MS, at the Pinnacle, starting at 6 pm. It's a chance for fans to rally behind the team as they aim to continue their impressive run in the postseason.
