CCC at Holmes – Game Preview

On Thursday evening, the Coahoma Community College women's basketball team plays at Holmes Community College.

Coahoma enters the game with a 2-0 record. The Lady Tigers opened the season with a 65-50 victory against East Mississippi, and followed that up with a 67-59 overtime win at Mississippi Delta.

CCC has done a tremendous job with offensive rebounding thus far this season. Coahoma recorded 19 offensive rebounds against EMCC, and out-rebounded MDCC 46-21. The Lady Tigers recorded 20 offensive rebounds against Delta; MDCC registered 14 defensive rebounds.

The Lady Tigers' Nakia Cheatham has had an excellent start to the season. Through two games, the 5-foot-11 sophomore guard has totaled 29 points, 20 rebounds, seven steals, six deflections, six assists, and three blocks. Cheatham recorded an 18-point, 14-rebound double-double against Mississippi Delta on Monday night.

Freshman forward Elishia Wilson has also played well for head coach Stephanie Murphy's team. Wilson is second on the team in points scored with 26, and leads the team with an impressive 10 offensive rebounds through two games.

As for Coahoma's opponent tonight, Holmes is 0-3 with a loss against East Mississippi, Northwest Mississippi, and Itawamba. HCC has also had success at offensive rebounding this season as the Lady Bulldogs registered 23 offensive rebounds against Northwest Mississippi on Nov. 4.

HCC is led in scoring by Shanbriah Rule. The freshman guard is averaging 16.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 4.3 APG thus far this season through three games.
