Box Score CLARKSDALE– The Coahoma Lady Tigers was looking to get their first MACJC North victory. East Mississippi Community College was looking to stay in the running for the MACJC North title. Coahoma gave everything they have, but East Mississippi made big plays in the 2nd half for an 89-77 victory on Monday Night.
East Mississippi (10-7, 5-3 MACJC North) had an early 10-5 lead. Geneva Walker and Dzondria Young scored a pair of layups cutting the lead 10-9. The Lady Lions answered with a layup by Kyla Temple extending the lead 12-9. Khiyee Robinson scored a layup giving Coahoma the lead 13-12.
Kayla Rodgers scored six straight points giving East Mississippi the lead 18-16 ending the 1st quarter. Both teams were going back and forth in the second quarter. Walker and Lameka President scored a pair of driving layups cutting the lead to 37-34 at the half.
The Lady Lions took control at the beginning of the 3rd quarter with a 10-2 run. Jordanna Morris and Kaisah Lucky scored a pair of layups extending the lead to 50-36.
Coahoma chipped the lead to single digits. Walker knocked down a jumper cutting the lead to 55-47. East Mississippi answered with a pair of layups by Brianna Page extending the lead to 62-53.
East Mississippi pulled away in the fourth quarter. Tyeisha Juhan and Allena Griffin scored a pair of layups extending the lead to 81-63.
East Mississippi had three players that scored in double figures. Juhan led the Lady Lions with 30 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Page finished with 15 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Rodgers finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Coahoma had three players that scored in double figures. Walneika Holmes led the Lady Tigers with 28 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Walker finished with 19 points, three rebounds, and six assists. President finished with 11 points, two rebounds, and two assists.
Coahoma goes to (2-16, 0-8 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Itawamba Community College. The game is set for 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 12, 2018, at The Pinnacle.
It will be part of a doubleheader followed by Coahoma vs. Itawamba men's game at 8 p.m.
