Box Score CLARKDALE– Coahoma Community College had to bring their A-game against Northwest Mississippi Community College. They had an unbelievable start and kept things going in the third quarter. Northwest finally woke up and came back from a 23 point deficit in an 81-80 victory Monday night at The Pinnacle.
Northwest had an early 10-7 lead. Coahoma bounced back with a three-pointer by Walker tying the game 10-10. Then Lameka President scores consecutive baskets to give Coahoma a 15-10 lead. The Lady Rangers answers with a three-pointer by Emily Bush cutting the lead to 19-17.
Coahoma started to pull away with an 11-2 run. Khiyee Robinson scored a driving layup extending the lead to 30-19. Then the Lady Tigers closed out the half outscoring Northwest 11-3. President knocked down a jump shot giving Coahoma the lead 41-23 at the half.
The Lady Tigers had their biggest lead 50-27 with 7:53 left in the 3rd quarter. Northwest didn't give up and started to fight back. They outscored Coahoma 18-6 in the last 3:54 of the 3rd quarter cutting CCC's lead to 65-55.
The Lady Rangers (8-6, 4-1 MACJC North) finally took the lead 78-77 when Mercedes Ward scored a layup with 1:06 remaining in the game. Geneva Walker scored a driving layup to tie the game at 80-80 with 10 seconds left. CCC's Walker makes a big mistake by fouling Ward with four seconds left. Ward makes one of two free throws giving Northwest the win. Coahoma had one more chance, but Walker lost the ball as time ran out. Ward finished with six points, four rebounds, and 14 assists.
Northwest had four players in double figures. Kayla Bradley led the Lady Rangers with 20 points and four rebounds. Chrissah Shaw scored 13 points, two rebounds, and three assists. Tamaria Thomas scored 13 points and six rebounds. Abby Miller scored 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Coahoma had four players in double figures. Walneika Holmes led the Lady Tigers with 22 points, five rebounds and three assists. Walker finished with 20 points, three rebounds and 10 assists. President scored 19 points and 15 rebounds. Fredricka Holmes scored 10 points and three rebounds.
Coahoma goes to (2-12, 0-4 MACJC North) on the season. They will continue MACJC Northern Division action against Holmes Community College. The game is set for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 in Goodman, MS.
It will be part of a doubleheader that's followed by Coahoma vs Holmes men's game at 8:00 p.m.
