Lady Tigers Getting Back to Work

CLARKDALE– Coahoma Community College women's basketball has gone through some ups and downs in the 2017-18 season. The Lady Tigers ended the 1st half of the season (2-9, 0-1 MACJC North). They had a long holiday break to rest and refocus on the remainder of the season.

Head Coach Danetra Forrest is ready, willing and able to get Coahoma back in the hunt for the MACJC North Title.

The Lady Tigers will start the second half of the season against East Mississippi Community College. The game is set for this Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. in Scooba, MS.

Walneika Holmes has been exceptional all season averaging 19 points a game. Geneva Walker and Lameka President have been emerging as key contributors. They both average 11 points and six rebounds per game. Nikkeria Harris has provided leadership on and off the floor. She also is an active contributor averaging nine points, 11 rebounds, and three assists a game.

The Lady Tigers came off a 115-79 loss to No. 8 Jones County Junior College on Dec. 7, 2017. They had three players in double figures. Holmes led the Lady Tigers with 36 points, including 6 three-pointers. Deeanna Harrington scored 13 points. President finished with 10 points.

Coach Forrest is confident that the Lady Tigers will have a better second half of the 2017-18 season.

"We finished a lot of games that we were winning, but we made freshman mistakes in keeping the lead," said Forrest. "I think we are past that stage and I'm excited that the growth of the team helps us in the second half."

East Mississippi (5-5, 1-0 MACJC North) is coming off a 72-65 victory over East Central Community College. They are led by Tyeisha Juhan and Kayla Rodgers. Juhan averages 20 points and seven rebounds per game. Rodgers averages 11 points and seven rebounds.

Juhan led the Lady Lions with 35 points, 10 rebounds and three assists against East Central. Brianna Page had 13 points and six rebounds.

The Lady Tigers want to get back to their winning ways. It has to start with getting a big win on the road in a hostile environment.

This game will be part of a doubleheader that's followed by the Coahoma vs East Mississippi men's game at 7:30 p.m.
