ELLISVILLE– Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers had a high noon tipoff against Jones County Junior College. The Lady Bobcats proved worthy of their ranking and outplayed the Lady Tigers in a 106-57 victory Friday afternoon at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Jones County (1-0) took an early 11-2 lead. The Lady Tigers then went on a 9-2 run. Walneika Holmes scored on a three pointer and driving layup to cut the lead to 13-11.
The Lady Bobcats put their best foot forward and never looked back. They went on a 13-2 run and took a 26-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Jones County outscored Coahoma 28-17 in the second quarter to take a 54-35 lead at the half.
The Lady Bobcats went on a 14-0 run in the third quarter increasing the lead to 79-49.
Jones County had seven players in double figures. They were led by Nique Cherry with 21 points, Camryn London scored 17 points, Chrystal Ezechukwu and Zakyia Weathersby had 14 points. Also in double figures, Breonca Ducksworth and Jaresa Brooks with 13 points. Followed by Kira Bonner who scored 12 points.
Holmes led the Lady Tigers with 24 points. Geneva Walker and Dzondria Young scored 8 points.
Coahoma goes to 0-2 on the season. They will continue on the road against Southwest Mississippi Community College. The game is set for 6 p.m. on Monday Nov. 6, 2017 in Summit, MS.
It will be part of a double header that's followed by Coahoma vs Southwest Mississippi men's game at 8 p.m.
