CCC Baseball preps for a weekend in Alabama on the heels of an impressive win at Williams Baptist. The squad upended a mix of varsity and JV Williams Baptist Eagles Feb. 18 in Walnut Ridge, 11-0 before falling in Game 2 10-8.
The team in Walnut Ridge was led by sophomore Adam Cook, who racked up 3 hits, 3 runs, 2 doubles and 2 RBI in Game 1. CCC jumped out to a 5-0 lead and did not look back, helping Dustin Allen notch his first win of the season by adding 2 more in the 3rd and 4 in the 6th. Lowell Haney, Tanner White, Braxton Wall and Landon Fullilove also turned in multi-hit performances for CCC.
Allen struck out 4 and allowed just 2 hits in 3 innings pitched to improve his record on the season 1-2.Â
CCC launched a comeback effort in Game 2 but fell just short despite another multi-hit game from Haney and one from Latalo Newson. Baptist scored 8 times over the first 3 innings and staved off a late effort by the Tigers to get the sweep.
Coahoma will spend the weekend in Alabama, battling Marion Military today at Marion and then traveling to Selma to battle Wallace on Saturday. Start times for both doubleheaders will be at noon.
