MARION, Alabama -
CCC Baseball dropped a pair Friday at Marion Military Institute, 7-1 and 6-2. The team will battle Wallace-Selma at Wallace tomorrow.Marion got out to an early lead in Game 1, scoring 5 times in the first 4 innings off CCC starter Kris Peet to establish an early advantage. Hayden Tapper knocked in the only run of the game for CCC on a sacrifice fly in the 5th to score Landon Fullilove.
Marion was led in Game 1 by Conner Bell, who notched the win by throwing 2 innings of shutout ball. On the offensive side, Zachary Neumann and Jackson Cofer combined for 5 hits, 4 runs and 1 RBI.
Game 2 was a different story, as CCC got out to an early lead in the top of the 1st. Lowell Haney walked to start the game against Marion hurler Blaine Miliam, stole second and advanced to 3rd before an error by Marion shortstop James Mills allowed him to score.
CCC starter Dustin Allen held the lead into the 3rd, when an RBI groundout by Cofer would bring in Chase Hamrick to tie the game. CCC re-established the lead in the 4th on an RBI single by Bailey Lott to score Braxton Wall.
Trailing 2-1 in the 5th though, Marion ignited a 2-out rally against Allen that culminated with back-to-back RBI singles by Carson McGregory and Neumann. They would add 3 more in the 6th off Jacob Feduccia to seal the win and increase their unbeaten streak at home to 11 games to start the season.
CCC (2-9) travels to Wallace-Selma (8-3) Saturday for its second doubleheader in Alabama. First pitch is slated for noon.
