CLARKSDALE— CCC baseball dropped a doubleheader at home Tuesday, falling to Mississippi Gulf Coast CC 5-1 and 5-4. Game 2 lasted 8 innings and was the third extra-inning contest for the Tiger squad this year.
Dustin Allen started Game 1 for CCC. He was sharp over the first 4 innings, but the Bulldogs were able to get to him for 4 runs in the 5th inning to build a lead. They added another in the 5th in support of their starter Winston Wilson, who flummoxed CCC hitters most of the day and carried a no-hitter a full 6 innings.
The Tigers were finally able to breakthrough in the 7th on a base hit by Hudson Ross. John Pafford drove in Ross's pinch runner Luis Colon for the first Coahoma run. But that was all they would get, falling by a final of 5-1.
Garrett Short got the start for CCC in Game 2. The righty got some early support from his offense, who put up a tally on an Adam Cook RBI base hit. Short surrendered 2 in the 2nd, but the Tigers managed to seize the lead back behind him. After Wesley Dew scored on an error in the 3rd, Caleb Lindsey built the biggest Coahoma advantage of the day, knocking in 2 with a double in the 4th.
Short would exit in the 6th, and his reliever Adam McPhail would allow a runner he inherited from him to score. That tied the game at 4. AFter neither team scored in the 7th, the game went to an extra frame, where Matt Trigg knocked home James Land to give MGCCC a 5-4 advantage.
The Tigers turned 3 double plays in the loss.
CCC travels to Scooba Wednesday for a DH with East MS CC. A live stream of the game will be available on coahomasports.com.
