Softball Goes Deep But Can't Overcome Northeast

Jessica Haynes and Vanessa Taylor each homer for Lady Tigers

CLARKSDALE—The CCC softball squad dropped a doubleheader to Northeast MS CC Tuesday at the Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex, falling by finals of 15-1 and 12-3. Jessica Haynes and Vanessa Taylor each went deep for Coahoma in the losses.

Northeast used a big 2nd inning to jump on CCC starter Gabrielle Lee in Game 1. They scored 9 times to open up a hole that proved too large to climb out of for the home squad. NEMCC registered 8 hits in the contest while benefitting from 7 Coahoma errors.

Jessica Haynes sent the first homerun of the year for CCC over the left field wall in the bottom of the third to put up the only tally against Northeast hurler Brittany Taylor. She pitched the game's full 4 innings to earn the victory.

In Game 2, it was once again Lee on the mound for the home team. NEMCC once again put up 8 hits on her and used a 9-run 4th to earn their second victory of the afternoon.

The contest did feature another CCC moonshot though. This time it was Vanessa Taylor who stroked one over the wall for the Lady Tigers. Her blast in the 4th also scored Haynes, who had reached for the third time on the afternoon with a double.

The victory put NEMCC at 10-5 overall and 6-2 in conference play. CCC now stands at 0-6 and 0-4 in the MACJC. They dropped a doubleheader to East Mississippi CC by finals of 16-0 and 18-0 on Monday.

The CCC squad will take on Northwest MS CC on March 20th in Senatobia at 2 pm. Their home matchup against Southwest MS CC, scheduled for March 19th, has been postponed due to inclement weather.
