Lady Tigers Downed By East Central In Decatur

Lady Warriors defeat CCC in season opener

Box Score

DECATUR - The CCC Lady Tigers fell to the East Central Lady Warriors 91-44 Monday night in Decatur in the opening game of the 2015-16 season. Eugenia Gilliam, a sophomore transfer from MS Delta CC, paced the Lady Tigers with 15 points.

East Central, who finished 20-6 last season and qualified for the state and regional tournaments, came out hot on their home floor. The Lady Warriors used excellent 3-point shooting and a stifling full-court press to open the game on a 29-12 run. They were led by sophomore Samantha Duncan, who finished with 17 points in 26 minutes.

Gilliam led CCC in both points and minutes, racking up her 15 points in 39 minutes on the floor. Diamond Love added 12 points of her own, knocking down 5 field goals in 24 minutes on the floor.

The Lady Tigers head to Utica on Thursday to battle Hinds. They finished last season 1-1 against Hinds, earning their first win of the season against the Lady Eagles in Clarksdale before waging a hard-fought battle in Utica that ended in a 1-point Hinds victory. The reloaded Lady Tigers will tip off at 6 pm.
