Tevin Lakes

Tevin L. Lakes, Sr. is a native of Drew, Mississippi. He was raised by his wonderful and God-fearing mother Mamie Washington (Drew, MS) and his father, the late Bruce E. Lakes, Sr. (Drew/Ruleville, MS)

He's a 2010 honors graduate of Ruleville Central High School. During high school, he was a three-star athlete--football, basketball, and a 3A state champion in 300-meter hurdles in track. During his senior season, he was voted best wide receiver in North Mississippi with 58 catches, 1,085 yards, 8 touchdowns and many more awards and accolades, finishing his senior year with a winning record. During his senior season of basketball, he was voted best offensive player by the Bolivar Commercial, while averaging 22.8 ppg, 7 rebs, 5.2 ast, helping his team make it to the 2nd round of the 3A MHSAA.

Coach Lakes started his college football career at Mississippi Delta Community College, where he played all positions in the secondary, but mainly cornerback and also had some return duties. He was NCJAA 2nd team All-American at cornerback finishing his career with nine interceptions and 29 pass breakups, He was also coached by Cedric Thomas, the head coach at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) & Torenzo Quin, the defensive back coach at UAPB.  He graduated from MDCC in 2012 with a 3.4 GPA and earned a scholarship to play football at Mississippi Valley State University.

Coach Lakes graduated from Mississippi Valley State University with his bachelor’s degree in (HPER) health, physical education & recreation. Only three hours away from his master’s degree in sports administration, a department headed by Dr. Ross, Lakes looks forward to graduating from MVSU in the fall.

Coach Lakes decided to further his football career at West Bolivar High School (2A) as a defensive back coach and DC at West Bolivar Junior High School in 2016. Yazoo City High School (4A) was his next step in moving up in his coaching career. At Yazoo City High, he was the secondary coach and had also assisted with a special team in 2017. During this time, one of his defensive backs earned a D1 scholarship to the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff UAPB (Stanleigh Bentley CB).

Prior to his new role as wide receiver coach, he trained the running backs on the CCC football team.

Coach Lakes is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. He has one child, Tevin L. Lakes, Jr. (Darling, Mississippi).
