Moses Harper will be entering his third season serving as the Offensive Coordinator and Quarterback Coach for the upcoming 2018 football season.
During the 2017 football season, Coach Harper’s Offensive unit showed much improvement in relation to the 2016 season in the National and Conference ranks. Performances include five All-Conference players in two seasons, an offense that averaged 200+ yards from the previous two seasons. This was an average that was the best over a 10-year period for a Coahoma Offense. In 2017, Coach Harper had a 1000-plus yard rusher in Josh Johnson, who is currently enrolled at the University of Louisiana Monroe and has set a school record for a single game rushing at 320 yards with 1100 plus, receiving NJCAA Player of the Week accolades; this makes him the 4th rusher to reach 1000+ in Coach Harper’s offensive scheme. Coach Harper convinced an offensive personnel group to give 15 players scholarships to 4-year institutions of higher learning during the 2016-2017 seasons. He helped make outstanding quarterbacks out of Rodney English (Langston College record setting season), Trey Mitchell (Now in running to start at East Tennessee State- staying as the MACJC top 5 passer, in the 2017 Season), and others who have signed major 4-year scholarships.
Coach Harper came to Coahoma after spending four years at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas. Coach Harper brings experience leading offense resulting in 25 Jayhawk All-Conference players and an NJCAA All-American. He is also credited for getting more than 40 athletes recruited to four-year colleges with 11 of them competing at the Division I level. Further accomplishments during his tenure at Fort Scott include producing back-to-back 1,000-yard rushers in 2013 and 2014 with Devin Taylor finishing in the top five for all-time rushing yards in school history in 2015 with a total of 2,392 yards in the H.O.B.O offense (High Octane Big Play Offense). The 2013 version of the H.O.B.O offense was explosive, as Coach Harper’s offense finished first in Region VI play, averaging 429.0 yards per game which was also #1 in the Jayhawk conference and ranked 15th nationally in the NJCAA. Prior to taking over as Offensive Coordinator for the Greyhounds, Coach Harper started as the wide receiver coach, where he coached New Orleans Saints’ wide receiver, Jared Dangerfield.
Prior to coaching at FSCC, Coach Harper spent one season at Highland Community College where he coached two honorable mention All-Conference receivers, and Indianapolis Colts NFL player Tay Glover-Wright.
Before his stop at Highland, Coach Harper was a student assistant at Central Methodist University, coaching the receivers. Harper helped the Eagles offense set multiple records including the single game mark of 652 total yards, which was set by the offense that Harper was a part of as a player. It’s the most yards in the school’s history.
Prior to joining the Eagle football coaching staff, Moses was a two-sport standout for CMU. On the gridiron, Moses was a Heart of America All-Conference wide receiver and helped the team to their first winning record in 18 years. On the basketball court, he played for Missouri Hall of Fame coach Jeff Sherman and helped lead the Eagles to a 28-win season and a Sweet Sixteen appearance at the NAIA D1 National Tournament which landed Coach Harper and his fellow teammates a spot in the Hairston Hall of Fame. Following graduation, Moses spent some time playing for the Wichita Wild in the Indoor Football League.
Prior to his time in Fayette, Moses played hoops lettering for two seasons at North Central Missouri College in Trenton, MO where he was part of NCMC’s only 20 win season in school history.
Moses, a McComb native, understands the importance of an education and athletic career. He has earned Associates of Arts degrees from NCMC and his Bachelor of Science degree in sports management from CMU.
As a proud parent, Coach Harper fathers two children, a son Kaden Harper and daughter Elise Harper.
