Lady Tigers Shine In Sophomore Night Victory Over Jones Lady Bobcats

Clarksdale, MS - March 4, 2024

The Coahoma Community College Lady Tigers emerged victorious against the Jones Lady Bobcats, securing a hard-fought win with a final score of 59-49. The game was a rollercoaster of excitement as the Lady Tigers emerged victorious.

Cayla Myers set the tempo early, nailing two impressive three-pointers, propelling the Lady Tigers to an 8-4 lead in the first quarter. The team maintained momentum, establishing a 15-6 lead with 3:10 remaining in the opening quarter. Although the Jones Lady Bobcats mounted a comeback, closing the gap to 17-13 by the end of the first quarter, the Lady Tigers kept their composure.

The second quarter showcased the scoring prowess of Kamil Washum, who extended the Lady Tigers' lead to 22-15. Cayla Myers continued to shine, hitting her third three-pointer, contributing to a 31-23 lead at halftime.

A brief weather delay added an unexpected twist, but it didn't dampen the Lady Tigers' determination. As play resumed, the team entered the third quarter with a 43-37 lead. A pivotal three-pointer from sophomore Janiya Jones sparked a scoring spree, pushing the Lady Tigers to a commanding 56-39 lead with three minutes remaining.

The final buzzer signaled the Lady Tigers' triumph at 59-49, with Kamil Washum leading the scoring charge with an impressive 17 points. Kamil is also the conference leader in three point percentage with an astounding 47 percent.

In a post-game ceremony, Janiya Jones was honored as the standout sophomore. The Lady Tigers, boasting a 40% shooting accuracy from the field and 28% from beyond the arc, secured 34 rebounds. 

Janiya Jones, not only the star sophomore but also the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers, ranked 6th in the conference with an average of 14 points per game. With this victory, the Lady Tigers have clinched a postseason bid, and details regarding the game time and opponent will be announced on Friday March 8, 2024. 

Looking ahead, the Lady Tigers will hit the road to face MDCC on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in their final regular-season game, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 PM. The Lady Tigers, with a season record of 16-7 (8-5), are eager to carry their winning momentum into the postseason.
