The Lady Tigers top EMCC in opening round of regional tournament

Box Score The CCC women's basketball team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2023 NJCAA DI Region 23 Women's Basketball Tournament. Fifth-seeded Coahoma defeated 12th-seeded EMCC 54-48 at the Pinnacle on Monday night.

With the win, the Maroon and White have defeated EMCC in seven of the past eight meetings between the two programs. With the exception of Monday's victory, all of CCC's wins in that stretch were by at least 13 points.

Coahoma has played stellar defense in those eight matchups as EMCC has been held to less than 59 points in each game.

As for Monday's matchup, Coahoma's Janiya Jones and Tiara Abron combined to score 41 points. Elishia Wilson recorded eight points to go along with three steals.

Sequoia Bouldin, Jamyia Bowen, Mackenzie Carter, and Jamea Smith also scored for CCC. Carter led the Lady Tigers in rebounding with seven.

The Lady Tigers are now 13-9 (8-6 MACCC) this season; EMCC is 7-15 (5-9 MACCC).

Coahoma faces four-seeded Mississippi Gulf Coast in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 1. The Lady Tigers defeated MGCCC 55-47 at the Pinnacle on Jan. 23 in their lone matchup of the regular season.
