Lady Tigers Get Outplayed by Lady Lions

CLARKSDALE- The Coahoma Lady Tigers had an opportunity to take down the top team in the MACJC North, ending a four-game homestand on a winning note. East Mississippi Community College rolled into Clarksdale on a 12-game winning streak. The Lady Lions took care of business and outplayed the Lady Tigers in a 67-50 victory on Thursday night at The Pinnacle.

East Mississippi set the tone early with driving layups by Ja'Mia Hollings, Tia Daniels, and Topazia Hawkins. The Lady Lions took an early 14-0 lead.

Brailyn Tate got Coahoma going with consecutive driving layups cutting the lead to 21-9.

The Lady Lions answered with a 9-0 run extending the lead to 30-9. Hollings scored back to back layups.

Amaria Strong stepped up, scoring four straight points. Coahoma cuts the lead to 36-16.

East Mississippi finished the 1st half strongly with a three-pointer by Aamiya Rush. The Lady Lions took a 40-16 lead at the half.

The Lady Tigers continued to play hard with consecutive three-pointers by Strong and Jada Harris. They cut the lead to 54-32.

The Lady Lions put the game out of reach for the Lady Tigers with another three-pointer by Rush at the buzzer ending the third quarter. East Mississippi took a commanding 57-36 lead.

East Mississippi (18-2, 8-0 MACJC North) had four players that scored in double figures.

Tye Metcalf led the Lady Lions with 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Rush finished with 13 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Hollings scored 11 points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Hawkins finished with 10 points, four assists, and two steals.

Coahoma had two players that scored in double figures. Tate led the Lady Tigers with 12 points and seven rebounds. Strong finished with 11 points and five rebounds. Harris scored nine points.

Coahoma goes to 9-10, 3-6 MACJC North on the season.

The Lady Tigers will battle Holmes Community College in an MACJC North matchup. The game is scheduled for Monday, Feb. 10, 2020, in Goodman, Mississippi. The tipoff will start at 5:30 p.m. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch as well as on the College's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
