CLARKSDALE- Coahoma and Northwest Mississippi ranked in the middle of the MACJC North Standings. Both teams looked to increase their chances of making the 2020 MACJC Conference Tournament. The Lady Rangers dominated the game early, but the Lady Tigers fought back to make things close. Northwest answered with some big plays holding on to a 64-54 victory at The Pinnacle on Monday Night.
Northwest started the game on fire with consecutive baskets by I'esha Mosby and Mallory Russell. The Lady Rangers took an early 18-2 lead.
They continue their hot shooting with three straight layups by Kayla Freeman.
Northwest shot 80 percent from the field in the 1st quarter. They led 30-11, ending the 1st quarter.
Coahoma steadily chipped away at the lead in the second quarter.
Ayani Cockrell scored consecutive baskets bring the Lady Tigers to a score 33-16.
The Lady Rangers answered with consecutive baskets by Ariel Tunstall. Northwest extended the lead to 42-28 at the half.
Northwest had a 58-43 lead with 7:32 remaining in the game.
Coahoma came back with an 11-2 run cutting the lead to 60-54.
The Lady Rangers put the game out of reach with Tunstall scoring the last four points.
Northwest Mississippi (12-7, 4-4 MACJC North) had two players that scored in double figures.
Mosby led the Lady Rangers with 12 points and two assists, Freeman finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, and Lindsey Hall scored nine points.
Jurnee McLaurin led Coahoma with 17 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, Cockrell finished with eight points and seven rebounds, &
Brailyn Tate scored eight points and six rebounds.
Coahoma goes to 9-9, 3-5 MACJC North on the season.
