Northeast’s Big Second Half Gets Victory Over Coahoma

CLARKSDALE- Coahoma and Northeast Mississippi went head-to-head in 'The Battle Of The Tigers.' Both teams played a close and low-scoring 1st half. Coahoma had a long second half of poor shooting and mistakes. Northeast took advantage of the errors and pulled away to a 70-45 victory Thursday night at the Pinnacle.

Coahoma took an early 8-4 lead with consecutive layups by Cornelius Holly and Cavin Paige.

Jordan O'Neal got the crowd rocking with a powerful dunk. Then Cortez McCarty steps up with a three-pointer extending the lead to 13-6.

Northeast came back with a 12-0 run. DeAnthony Tipler and Isaac Chatman scored consecutive baskets giving the Tigers an 18-13 lead with 5:06 remaining in the 1st half.

Kendall Richardson knocked down a three-pointer cutting the lead to 18-17, bring CCC back into the game.

Northeast answered with a layup and three-point play by Braxton Pritchard. Jalen Perkins stepped up with a three-pointer extending the lead to 24-17.

Coahoma finished strong in the 1st half with consecutive jumpers by Holly and McCarty. The Mighty Tigers cut the lead to 24-21 at the half.

The second half was a different story for both teams. McCarty got things going with a three-pointer followed by Richardson scoring a layup cutting the lead to 29-26.

Northeast answered with Tipler scoring a driving layup and a three-pointer. The Tigers extended the lead to 36-26.

Northeast took charge with consecutive three-pointers by Jayven Humphrey. Pritchard added on with a three-pointer giving the Tigers a commanding 56-39 lead.

Coahoma shot 22% (7-32) and had eight turnovers in the 2nd half.

Northeast shot 59% (16-27) and outscored Coahoma 46-24 in the 2nd half.

Chatman led Northeast Mississippi (17-1, 6-1 MACJC North) with 18 points and eight rebounds, Perkins finished eight points and eight rebounds, & Pritchard and Tipler each scored seven points and three rebounds.

McCarty led Coahoma with 17 points and five rebounds, Paige finished with six points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals & Jaylen Washington scored six points, four rebounds, and two assists.

Coahoma goes to (7-10, 2-5 MACJC North) on the season. The Mighty Tigers will battle Northwest Mississippi Community College in an MACJC North matchup. The game is scheduled on Monday, Feb. 3, 2020, at the Pinnacle, and tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The game will broadcast live at www.coahomasports.com/watch as well as on the College's radio station WCQC 91.3 FM.
