CLARKSDALE- Coahoma and Northwest Mississippi were in the middle of the MACJC North Standings. Both teams were looking to increase their chances of making the 2020 MACJC Conference Tournament. Coahoma played without
Jordan O'Neal (Knee Injury) and
Cavin Paige (Personal Reasons). The Tigers played their hearts out and gave the Rangers some trouble in the 1st half. Northwest settled down and tired out Coahoma in a 72-60 victory on Monday night in the Pinnacle.
James Edwards got things going for Northwest with a jumper. The Rangers swiftly took an early 8-3 lead.
Coahoma changed the momentum and took a 12-11 lead with a 9-3 run.
Cortez McCarty scored a driving layup.
Tyler Berryhill stepped up by scoring a three-pointer. The Tigers took a 16-14 lead.
Northwest bounced back with a three-pointer by Milton McGee and a driving layup by Jakobi Pearson. The Rangers took a 19-16 lead.
Cornelius Holly kept Coahoma in the game with a driving layup. The Tigers cut the lead to 19-18.
Northwest took control in the 1st half with a 12-2 run to close out the 1st half. Pearson, Montez Allen, and RJ Duhart each scored driving layups. The Rangers took a 31-20 lead at the half.
The Rangers started hot in the 2nd half. Tomias Brand scored consecutive jumpers extending the lead to 37-22.
Troy Johnson stepped up for Coahoma with consecutive layups in the paint, cutting the lead to 49-40 with 12:12 remaining in the game.
Northwest outscored Coahoma 19-9 in the last 8:53 in the second half. McGee scored a driving layup giving the Rangers a commanding 68-49 lead with 3:31 remaining.
Northwest Mississippi (13-6, 5-3 MACJC North) had three players that scored in double figures,
Brand led the Rangers with 14 points and four rebounds, and Duhart finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and three blocks. Pearson scored 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
Coahoma had three players that scored in double figures. Richardson led the Tigers with 17 points, two rebounds, and two assists, Holly finished with 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists, and McCarty scored 11 points, five rebounds, and two assists.
Coahoma goes to 7-11, 2-6 in the MACJC North on the season.
