CLARKSDALE- The Coahoma Lady Tigers and the Itawamba Lady Indians had an intense battle in their 1st meeting. Both teams met again in an MACJC North matchup and didn't disappoint with their performances.
Coahoma had a chance to force overtime, but a three-pointer by
Jurnee McLaurin came up short. Itawamba gets a 60-57 victory at The Pinnacle.
Coahoma had their most significant lead 34-27, with 6:18 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Amara Strong knocked down a three-pointer.
Mary Wilkins chipped in with a driving layup.
The Lady Indians outscored the Lady Tigers 17-4 to take a 44-38 lead ending the 3rd quarter. Kealy Wilson stepped up by scoring a 2-point jumper.
Itawamba had it's most significant lead at 47-38, starting the 4th quarter. Whitney Watkins knocked down a three-pointer.
McLaurin scored consecutive three-pointers cutting the lead to 49-47.
The Lady Tigers kept chipping the lead, but the Indians kept answering with big plays.
Brailyn Tate scored a driving layup cutting the lead to 58-57 with 40 seconds remaining in the game.
Itawamba answers one more time with two made free throws by Tabreea Gandy.
Wilson got things going for Itawamba with consecutive layups. The Lady Indians took an early 15-6 1st quarter lead.
Coahoma had a huge 2nd quarter by outscoring Itawamba 20-5. Tate scored eight points in the quarter, including consecutive driving layups. The Lady Tigers took a 26-20 lead at the half.
Itawamba (17-3, 9-1 MACJC North) had two players that scored in double figures. Gandy led the Lady Indians with 22 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and five assists, Watkins finished with 10 points and two rebounds, and Wilson scored nine points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Coahoma had three players that scored in double figures. McLaurin led the Lady Tigers with 23 points, three assists, and two steals, Tate finished with 12 points and 16 rebounds, Strong scored 10 points, and two rebounds, and Wilkins scored eight points and seven rebounds.
Coahoma goes to 9-12, 3-8 MACJC North on the season.
