CLARKSDALE- The Coahoma Lady Tigers and the South Arkansas Univ. Tech Lady Rockets battled for the second time this season on Sophomore Night at the Pinnacle. The Lady Tigers had a breakout performance and snapped a four-game losing streak in an 86-47 victory.
Brailyn Tate got the Lady Tigers going with consecutive driving layups. Coahoma took an early 12-3 lead.
Jonay Fulks stepped up for SAU Tech with consecutive three-pointers cutting the lead to 12-9.
Coahoma answered with a driving layup by
Jada Harris extending the lead to 17-11, ending the 1st quarter.
The Lady Tigers pulled away in the 2nd quarter on a 14-2 run. They scored a barrage of three-pointers by Harris,
Mary Wilkins,
Iitasha Paty, and
Dasia Harden. Coahoma extends the lead to 35-13.
Tate and
Ayani Cockrell scored a pair of driving layups to close out the 1st half. Coahoma leads 45-22 at the half.
The Lady Tigers continued to pour it on in the 2nd half.
Kristieon Reed scored a driving layup. Then
Jurnee McLaurin chipped in with consecutive three-pointers. Coahoma had a commanding 67-31 lead ending the 3rd quarter.
SAU Tech (5-17) had three players that scored in double figures. Deneshelle Barton and Raegan Williams led the Lady Rockets. They each scored 13 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Fulks finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.
Coahoma had four players that scored in double figures. McLaurin led the Lady Tigers with 18 points, six rebounds, and three assists. Cockrell finished with 11 points and nine rebounds. Wilkins scored 11 points, four assists, and two rebounds. Tate finished with 10 points and two rebounds.
Coahoma Women's Basketball had a ceremony honoring their graduating sophomores.
Jada Harris is the lone sophomore on this year's team. She averaged three points a game off the bench. She brought a lot of experience, leadership, and energy for the Lady Tigers. Her best performance was against East Mississippi on Jan. 13, 2020. She had 11 points and two rebounds.
Coahoma goes to 10-12 on the season.
