CLARKSDALE- The Coahoma Mighty Tigers and the Itawamba Indians had an intense battle in their 1st meeting. Both teams met again in an MACJC North matchup at The Pinnacle.
Coahoma had a rough second half scoring only 12 points. The Indians took advantage of the Tigers' miscues in a 65-38 victory.
Itawamba got things going with a three-pointer by Travonta Doolittle. The Indians took an early 5-0 lead.
Coahoma came back with
Jordan O'Neal scoring their 1st six points, cutting the lead to 7-6.
The Indians answered with a quick 6-0 run extending the lead to 13-6. Antwon Porter scored consecutive layups.
Rance Champ stepped up for the Indians with consecutive three-pointers extending the lead to 19-9.
Cavin Paige gets Coahoma back in the game with a driving layup and three-pointer cutting the lead to 19-14.
Itawamba answered with a 10-2 run extending the lead to 29-16 with 3:39 remaining in the 1st half. Brandon Brown scored consecutive baskets for the Indians.
The Tigers bounced back with a 10-0 run to close out the 1st half. O'Neal and
Cornelius Holly scored on consecutive slam dunks cutting the lead to 29-26 at the half.
The Indians outscored the Tigers 36-12 in the 2nd half.
O'Neal scored consecutive baskets to start the 2nd half cutting the lead to 33-30.
Coahoma stayed in the game until 12:09 remaining in the game.
Troy Johnson scored a driving layup cutting the lead to 42-38. That was the last score the Tigers had in this game.
Itawamba closed the game on a 23-0 run. Ma'Darius Hobson puts the game out of reach with consecutive three-pointers.
Itawamba (9-11, 5-5 MACJC North) had two players that scored in double figures. Hobson led the Indians with 20 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Doolittle finished with 10 points and two rebounds. Brown scored eight points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
O'Neal led the Tigers with 16 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Paige finished with nine points, six assists, and four rebounds.
Coahoma goes to 7-14, 2-9 MACJC North on the season.
