CLARKSDALE- The Coahoma Mighty Tigers suffered two tough losses against East Mississippi Community College and Holmes Community College. They strategized a comeback to return to their winning ways against Faith Prep Academy. Coahoma worked hard and executed the game plan that resulted in a 67-52 Homecoming victory.
Faith Prep gassed up a good start with a jumper by Jalon Bates. The Warriors took an early 6-2 lead.
Coahoma came back with a dunk by
Jordan O'Neal, tying the game 6-6.
Both teams were going toe to toe in the first half. Coahoma gained control with another dunk by O'Neal and a driving layup by
Cavin Paige; they took a 16-10 lead with 10:20 remaining in the first half.
Troy Johnson hopped off the bench for Coahoma. He got the crowd going with a driving layup and a powerful dunk. The Tigers took a 32-22 lead at the half.
Coahoma took possession of the game with a 13-2 run to begin the second half. O'Neal,
Cortez McCarty, and
Nakia Daniel all tossed consecutive three-pointers. The Tigers gripped a commanding 45-24 lead.
Before the start of the men's game, Coahoma Community College Athletics paused the event for its annual CCC Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The institution inducted four honorees into the Hall of Fame 'Class of 2020.'
Timothy Pollard (1985-1987) led CCC Basketball in scoring in his two-year career, averaging 22.5 points per game his freshman year and 24 points a game his sophomore year. He led the MACJC Conference in three-point shooting. Pollard was also a member of the all MACJC North All-Star Team.
Jocelyn Frost (1994-1996) led CCC Women's Basketball in scoring in her two-year athletic career at Coahoma. She averaged 30 points, five rebounds, and six assists per game. She was an NJCAA All-American, a member of the all MJCAA team, and all MACJC North Team. Frost led the lady Tigers to a berth to the MJCAA tournament and NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
Willie Mae Lindsey (1995-1997) was an all-around student-athlete for CCC Women's Basketball. She averaged 17 points and 13 rebounds per game her freshman year along with 20 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 blocks a game during her sophomore year.
John Mayo has worked in Public Relations and Sports Information for decades. He has reported on more than 1200 football, basketball, baseball, softball, and track events. Mayo has highlighted the accomplishments of Coahoma Community College athletes with thousands of snapped photos and written stories.
Bates led Faith Prep Academy with 14 points and six rebounds. Tristan Haymon scored eight points and five rebounds. Corliss Brewer finished with eight points and four rebounds.
O'Neal led Coahoma with 19 points, six rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals. Paige concluded with nine points, four rebounds, and two steals. Coahoma goes to 6-8 on the season.
