WESSON- The Coahoma Softball program was looking to turn the season around against #13 Copiah-Lincoln Community College. The Wolves have had a break-out season. They took charge of the Tigers in the doubleheader 10-0 and 9-1.
In Game One, Coahoma watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 10-0 loss. Co-Lin (14-3, 5-1 MACJC) scored on a stolen base by Callie Fortenberry, a single by Makenzie Smith and a stolen base by Kaytlon Ward in the first inning. The Tigers struggled to put runs on the board. Although having a tough time defensively, they contained the Wolves by giving up 10 runs.
One bright spot for Coahoma was a single by Brittney Burchfield in the fifth inning. She led the Tigers with one hit in two at-bats.
Ward led things off in the circle for Co-Lin. She lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out nine.
Katelyn Hayman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Co-Lin in hits. Fortenberry led the Wolves with four stolen bases. They ran wild on the base paths with 13 stolen bases.
Mekayla Hubbard started the game for Coahoma. She lasted three and one-third innings, allowing six hits and 10 runs while striking out one. Skyler Sistrunk threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.
In Game Two, It was a tough game for Coahoma, who lost 9-1. Co-Lin scored four runs in the third inning. Marley Poole, Hannah Walls, Ky'Albri Washington and Makenzie Smith all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
The Tigers socked one home run. Hubbard went for the long ball in the fourth inning.
Mackenzie Gros was in the circle for the Wolves. She surrendered one run on two hits over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Smith went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Co-Lin in hits.
Alexis Holland led things off in the pitcher's circle for Coahoma. She allowed six hits and six runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one. Skyler Sistrunk threw one and one-third innings out of the bullpen. Shaniya Johnson and Hubbard each managed to achieve one hit for the Tigers.
Coahoma goes to 0-14 on the season (0-6 MACJC). The Tigers have also played against East Mississippi in an MACJC doubleheader on March 26, 2019 in Scooba, Mississippi.
